Stan strikes again with a great multimedia package of the Summer Workshop for Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony. Stan says, "I shot this assignment about a workshop for students in an orchestra on one day and built a slideshow the next day." Sweet images. I always enjoyed photographing serious musicians. It never mattered whether they were a bunch of folks in the classrooms of a school jamming before their turn at the stage in a bluegrass festival or some kids intense on being the next rock star. Stan was really psyched about the ambient sounds in this offering. Me too. Check it out! -bike-guy |

This is cool, although kinda pricy. Though it is a lot cheaper than losing your dog. Good in dense cover and up to 5 miles. Not only shows where you dog IS, but how it is moving (running, pointing, sitting, etc) but also where it's BEEN. How cool is that. By the product description it looks like this was built for hunters, but I bet it would work on kids too.

With the surge in gas prices there are more bicycles on the roads in LA. This also seems to be spiking road rage in motorists as well as some out-of-reason activism by some cyclists. Here are a couple instances of both bits of craziness: Freeway MADNESS!! Extreme road rage -bike-guy |

I have to watch my anger with Beag. I guess to be fair to myself it's not so much anger as it is frustration. But it does manifest itself as anger with a rising voice, arms raised and intense eye contact. This is particularly an issue with a dog like Beag who doesn't have a strong sense of work (for a border collie). As I look back at my time with my last border collie, Buddy, I think I must have damaged the relationship with anger as well. I get wound up and want that sense of commitment and obedience and I can forget that we all can make mistakes and dogs or people. I also tend to be overly intense when I get involved in what I am doing. Some of the great instruction from Terry and Kate has included them telling me that I am overwhelming my dog and causing her to shutdown. I have always been tough on those around me in the aspect that I see mistakes, errors and things out of place BEFORE I notice the positives. I have to be conscience of this about myself with people and my dogs. I need to not hesitate to praise and correct behavior with as little emotion as possible. Here is a link that motivated this post and has some great info for those of you like me. -bike-guy |

Here is an interesting way to "lock" UP your bike. It's almost time for L' Tour de France! Here are some sweet photos from yesteryear. For you photogs out there some of these are from Robert Capa. One of the best photojournalists EVER! And still on la Tour here is an in-depth story on the technology in the sport from Scientific American. -bike-guy |
